DESCRIPTION: Seeds water dispersed containing a very high oil content. The oils are simple triglycerides, slightly heavier than those of refined cottonseed oil.

ECOLOGY: Amazonian riversides 0–500 m.

EDIBLE USE:

MEDICINAL USE: Seeds purgative and emetic.

OTHER USE: Calculated on a weight per fruit basis, the seed oil content is higher than that of any other dicot (55%). The cotyledons in the seeds are used as candles by the Campa Indians of the Pichis Valley of Peru. They burn with a clear blue flame.
